>>Dodgers Drop Another Tough Game In SF
(San Francisco, CA) -- The Dodgers lost to the San Francisco Giants 4-2 Sunday at AT&T Park. Ray Durham smacked a pinch-hit, three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning to win it for the Giants, who took two-of-three in the weekend series. Randy Winn scored the other run for San Francisco. Jeff Kent homered twice for the Blue Crew, which remains two-and-a-half games behind the Padres in the National League wild card race. Tyler Walker tossed a scoreless inning of relief to notch his first win while Brad Hennessey closed things out for his 19th save. Joe Beimel [[ BY-mull ]] was tagged with the loss. LA has tonight off. The Dodgers begin a crucial three-game series against San Diego Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium.
>>Halos Lose To Tribe
(Anaheim, CA) -- The Angels were defeated by Cleveland Sunday night in Anaheim, 6-2. Ryan Garko's three-run homer highlighted a five-run fourth inning as the Indians earned a split with the Halos. Asdrubal [[ azz-DROO-bull ]] Cabrera drove in two runs, and Grady Sizemore had two hits and scored twice for the Tribe. Rookie Aaron Laffey [[ LAFF-ee ]] gave up six hits and two runs over five innings to get the win and move to 3-and-1. Jered Weaver surrendered nine hits and all six runs in five frames to fall to 11-and-7. Casey Kotchman had three hits for the Angels, who now have an eight-game lead over Seattle for first place in the American League West. Mike Scioscia's team is off today before opening a three-game set at Baltimore Tuesday.
>>Bolts Zap Bears In San Diego
(San Diego, CA) -- The Chargers defeated the defending NFC champion Chicago Bears Sunday in San Diego, 14-3. LaDainian Tomlinson rushed for one touchdown and tossed another while teammate Antonio Gates hauled in nine passes for 107 yards and a TD. San Diego also converted three second-half turnovers into 14 points. Philip Rivers completed 22-of-31 passes for 190 yards with an interception and a lost fumble for "the Bolts." Bears QB Rex Grossman was held to 12-of-23 passing for 145 yards with an interception for the Bears. Chicago running back Cedric Benson was limited to 42 yards on the ground while Adrian Peterson added 38 more. The Chargers next game is Sunday, when they face the New England Patriots in Foxboro, Massachusetts.
>>UCLA Beats BYU For Second Straight Win
(Pasadena, CA) -- UCLA defeated Brigham Young University at the Rose Bowl Saturday, 27-17. Tom Blake jumped on a key fourth-quarter fumble by Cougars quarterback Max Hall as the 13th-ranked Bruins held off a pesky BYU squad. Bruins quarterback Ben Olson completed 13-of-28 passes for 126 yards with one interception. UCLA's Kahlil Bell carried 16 times for 77 yards and a touchdown while teammate Chris Markey also had 16 carries for 51 yards and a TD. As for Hall, he completed 30-of-54 passes for 392 yards with a pair of TDs and an interception for the 1-and-1 Cougars, who had an 11-game win streak snapped. BYU's Austin Collie led all receivers with seven catches for 80 yards and two touchdowns. The 2-and-0 Bruins next take the field Saturday when they face Utah in The Beehive State.
>>Chivas USA Blanks New York
(Carson, CA) -- Chivas [[ SHEE-vuss ]] USA defeated New York Sunday at Home Depot Center in Carson, 3-0. Chivas is now 8-0-and-2 in its home stadium this season. Maykel Galindo scored Chivas's first two goals with Ante Razov picking up the other. Chivas moved into second place in the Major League Soccer Western table, two points back of Houston. Chivas USA improved its season record to 12-6-and-4. Chivas next plays Thursday at home against the David Beckham-less LA Galaxy.
