EVENT INFORMATION

Eric Lindholm, conductor, leads the orchestra in Brahms’ Symphony No. 2 in D Major, Op. 73. Also on the program, is 2019 PCO Concerto Competition winner and violinist Hana Burgess. She will perform Wieniawski’s Violin Concerto No. 2 in D Minor, Op. 22.

The Pomona College Orchestra is one of the largest and most prestigious performing organizations on campus, and has a long tradition as an important creative and cultural outlet for the students, faculty, and staff of The Claremont Colleges. Although the majority of its members are Pomona College students, the orchestra also has representatives from Scripps, Harvey Mudd, Claremont McKenna, and Pitzer colleges, as well as the Claremont Graduate University, other local colleges, and the greater Claremont community. The home of the PCO is the beautiful Bridges Hall of Music, on the Pomona College campus.

One of two 2019 Concerto Competition winners, Ms. Burgess is a sophomore at Scripps College majoring in biochemistry. She studies violin with Sarah Thornblade at Pomona College previous teachers include Ron Patterson and Jan Coleman. Prior to attending Scripps, Hana performed as a soloist in Sarasate Zigeunerweisen with the Lakeside School orchestra, and achieved recognition as a soloist and chamber musician from competitions including Seattle Young Artists, WMEA Solo and Ensemble and PAFE Festival. This past summer she attended Orford Musique, where she studied with professors including Lucie Robert, Andrew Wan, Yehonatan Berick and the Gryphon Trio.
