World Premiere of Moses, an Oratorio

Wilshire Boulevard Temple
3663 Wilshire Boulevard
Los Angeles, CA

The San Fernando Valley Master Chorale and Artistic Director Charlie Kim, with orchestra, soloists, and staging, will perform the exciting world premiere of 'Moses, an Oratorio' in the historic and beautifully restored 1920s landmark Wilshire Boulevard Temple in Los Angeles.

Written by composer-in-residence Sergio Barer, who began composing classical music for the concert hall and for choirs in the 1990s and had his first piano concerto recorded by the Kiev Symphony Orchestra in 2006. “The Moses project started three years ago after I discovered that there was no oratorio that focused specifically on the life of Moses,” Barer remarked. “I decided to use an accessible musical language because I wanted this to be a work not only for professional choirs but for smaller ensembles as well.”

Artistic Director Charlie Kim is a southern California native and piano virtuoso, as well as an accomplished vocalist, conductor, and teacher. Currently, Kim is a music director for a local parish, a teaching artist and a soloist for the Los Angeles Opera's Education and Community Department, and a member of the world-renowned Los Angeles Master Chorale.

The San Fernando Valley Master Chorale is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit performance organization for choral singers representing the San Fernando Valley and surrounding areas. Its mission is to foster community engagement and pride through quality performances of chorale masterworks on a large scale and to be a beacon of the highest level of musicianship for audience and performers alike. In addition to local Valley venues such as the Madrid Theater, Valley Performing Arts Center (CSUN) and Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, the chorale has performed at Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall in New York, and at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and John Anson Ford Amphitheatre in Los Angeles.
